There are three types of ADHD: inattentive, hyperactive/impulsive, and combined. To diagnose ADHD, the individual must exhibit several symptoms before the age of 12, exhibit these symptoms in multiple settings, struggle to function normally, and have symptoms that cannot be better explained by another condition.
Our evaluation involves gathering information about the individual and comparing it to the criteria for an ADHD diagnosis. We might give tests to see how the individual thinks and performs in various tasks to determine if they have the weaknesses we would expect for someone with ADHD. An ADHD diagnosis can help you better understand yourself or your child and why you think or behave the way you do, reducing feelings of shame, frustration, or embarrassment.
